This article is an introduction to Application Workspace's integration with Microsoft Teams. For information about settings to configure in Application Workspace, the AzurePortal, and Microsoft Teams, see Set Up Application Workspace for Microsoft Teams and Manually Configure Application Workspace for Microsoft Teams.
Currently, only applications published to the Workspace in Application Workspace are visible in Microsoft Teams.
Prerequisites
To set up the Application Workspace for Microsoft Teams app you need to be able to perform the following things:
- Set up a new app registration in Azure Portal, Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD).
- Be able to manage your organization's team environment and manage its apps.
Find Application Workspace in Microsoft Teams
Once the integration is set up, Application Workspace appears in the Microsoft Teams left-hand menu.

When you open Application Workspace from within Teams:
- You can access filters, tags, categories or teams just like in Application Workspace.
- You can sort applications according to the options available in Application Workspace, as well as two extra ones - Frequently used and Recently used.
- Choose to display Application Workspace using Microsoft Teams' light or dark themes
The Application Workspace integration for MS Teams does not currently support localization in other languages.
To learn more, see How to Register an App in Microsoft Entra ID | Microsoft Learn.
Follow these steps to set up Application Workspace for Microsoft Teams with Entra ID. You'll configure the wizard, deploy the app bundle, and pin it for your users.
For a video walkthrough of the workflow, see How to set up the Microsoft Teams integration in Application Workspace on the Recast YouTube channel.
Prerequisites
- Microsoft Entra ID set up as an identity source
- Token exchange enabled on your identity source - to have Application Workspace for Microsoft Teams authenticate your users
Initiate the configuration wizard
To initiate the configuration wizard:
1. Open the Entra ID identity source and navigate to the Microsoft Teams tab.
2. Click Set up the Microsoft Teams app.
3. Sign into the Azure Portal (if you are not already signed in). The account you use to sign in should be able to provide administrative consent on Azure App registrations. If the account you are currently signed in with does not have these privileges, choose Sign in with another account.
4. In the Deploy the Application Workspace for Microsoft Team app window that opens, enter and choose the necessary details:
Identity Source type
- Name – Enter a display name for Application Workspace.
- Supported account types – Select an account type that corresponds with your Application Workspace app registration. This allows you to control the type of accounts that are allowed to log into the Teams app. If you need to provide access to external accounts, you might need to change these settings.
- App availability – Besides integrating with Microsoft Teams, the app can also be integrated within the Office 365 portal and with Microsoft Outlook. To ensure users are able to log in via these channels, additional permissions need to be granted for these channels.
If no popup opens, a popup blocker might be preventing the window from opening.
Deploy the app
1. On the Success screen that appears after clicking Deploy, select Click here to generate your bundle to generate the Microsoft Teams app bundle as a .zip file.
2. Go to the Manage apps page for Microsoft Teams.
3. In the upper right corner, click Actions > Upload new app.
4. Click Upload and add the zip file you downloaded previously.
After the upload finishes, you'll see a New app added message. This step enables the application for both the Microsoft 365 portal and the Outlook app, if configured in the previous step. The application should now be available within the Microsoft Teams store.
Set Up Entra ID for Application Workspace
To set up Entra ID for Application Workspace:
1. In the Entra ID app registration used for the identity source and SSO to Application Workspace, expose an API for token exchange.
2. Add the Application ID URI for the Entra ID app registration to the Application Workspace identity source.
3. If you use CSP or CORSm, allow the following domain: https://workspace-apps.recastsoftware.com.
For instructions, see How to set up your exchange token.
Security Settings
Content Security Policy (CSP) and/or Cross-Origin Resource Sharing are enabled by default.
To allow Application Workspace communicate with Microsoft Teams, add https://workspace-apps.recastsoftware.com to both configuration options.
Pin the app for your users (optional)
To pin the app in Teams:
1. Navigate to https://admin.teams.microsoft.com/policies/app-setup/, which displays all the policies that apply to Microsoft Teams apps within your tenant.
2. Select the policy to use to pin the app.
Learn how to register Application Workspace in the Azure Portal, where you can find the Microsoft Teams app manifest files, how to download them, and all the settings you need to configure to integrate Application Workspace in Microsoft Teams.
Prerequisites
- Have an active Microsoft Entra ID app registration that is used to authenticate to Application Workspace.
- Write down the URL where Application Workspace is accessible as you will need it during the configuration process. This value is indicated as
<RECASTSOFTWARE-URL>in this document.
Configure API permissions on the Application Workspace Entra ID app registration
To allow the Teams application to authenticate users, the exchange token should be configured for Application Workspace. Read How to set up your exchange token for more information. Copy the scope from your app registration. This value is indicated as <RECASTSOFTWARE-Scope> in this document.
Register a new application in the Azure Portal
For the Teams app to authenticate to Application Workspace, you'll need to set up a new app registration in Microsoft Entra ID.
To set up a new app registration:

6. Click Register to complete the initial app registration.
7. Make a note of the Application (client) ID, as you'll need it later, for the Microsoft Entra app manifest generator.
Download the Microsoft Teams App Manifest Files
To download the Teams app manifest files:
1. Navigate to the Application Workspace Download page.
2. Enter the necessary details:
- Workspace URL -
<RECASTSOFTWARE-URL> - App registration identifier - The Application (client) ID you noted down earlier
- User impersonation scope -
<RECASTSOFTWARE-Scope>
3. Click Generate. Application Workspace will generate a zip archive containing 2 .JSON files.
4. After the download finishes, extract the zip file into a directory. You will need these Microsoft Teams app manifest files for the next step.
Add the Application Workspace App Manifest to Entra ID
To add the app manifest to Entra ID:
1. In the Azure Portal, open the Recast Teams App you previously registered.
2. Navigate to Manage > Manifest and upload the appreg_1.json and for appreg_2.json files.
Publish Application Workspace to Microsoft Teams
To publish the application to Teams:
1. Open the Microsoft Teams administrator centre and go to Teams apps > Manage apps.
