The Application Workspace Launcher is the desktop client version of the Web Launcher. It replicates the same functionality except for a few differences, but runs as a desktop app on Windows and macOS operating systems.
The Launcher requires the Application Workspace Agent to function.
The Application Workspace Launcher offers:
Streamlined Access
There is no dependency on a browser or internet connection, making it ideal for environments with restricted or no internet access (e.g., factory production floors). There is no need to enter URLs, remember bookmarks, or log in through a browser each time.
Security
Using the Application Workspace Launcher runs a controlled environment dedicated solely to the application., which minimizes risks from browser-based vulnerabilities, phishing, or accidental navigation.
Desktop Integration
The Application Workspace Launcher provides system integration, such as a Start menu entry and system tray icon for Windows operating systems and a menulet in the menu bar, or entry in Launchpad, Dock, Spotlight on macOS operating systems.
NOTE: You can only drag and drop a local application into your workspace when using the Application Workspace Launcher.
Launcher-specific settings
You can find launcher-specific settings, such as disabling the option to close the launcher or displaying a minimalist interface, by navigating to Manage > Portal > Agent Settings.
Launcher behaviour in offline mode
- In Offline Mode, the Launcher has limited functionality:
- The Side Menu and Workspace, Contacts, Catalog, Manage tabs are hidden, only the toolbar without the side menu toggle is displayed
- You cannot change any personal settings, and applications can only be installed and started.
