Getting Started with the AW Migration Utility

The Recast Application Workspace Migration Utility assists administrators in migrating application inventory and deployment packages from third-party management platforms into Application Workspace Zones. This Windows desktop tool connects to one or more source platforms to retrieve software inventory, match applications against existing zone resources, and import selected applications directly into the zone.

You can download the AW Migration Utility from the Application Workspace downloads page. It's located on the Integrations tab.

When you're working in the utility itself, you can press F1 or click the Help button in the title bar at any time to open the in-product help guide.

Migration Utility User Preferences

You can configure the following options by navigating to Settings > User Interface Preferences.

  • Dry Run Mode: When enabled, all operations are logged but no changes are made to Zone. Recommended for the first run.
  • Show Welcome screen on startup: Toggles the Welcome screen on application launch.
  • Allow Telemetry: When enabled, installed software inventory is sent to the Recast Patching API to improve match accuracy. Enabled by default. Uncheck to use local heuristic matching only. See the Recast Privacy Policy for details.
  • Open Log Folder: Opens the log folder (%APPDATA%\Recast Software\ApplicationWorkspace Migration Utility\Logs) in Windows Explorer. Log files are written daily in the format app-YYYY-MM-DD.log. If the folder does not yet exist, it will be created automatically.

    Initial Launch of Migration Utility

    1. Launch ApplicationWorkspace.MigrationUtility.exe.

NOTE: To import Intune applications, you must launch the Migration Utility with administrator privileges.

    2. On the Welcome screen that appears, review the Getting Started guidance, then close the window.

    3. Navigate to the Settings tab to configure your Zone connection and enable data sources.

TIP: The Welcome screen can be re-enabled at any time under Settings > User Interface Preferences > Show Welcome screen on startup
