Remote File Explorer

Use the Right Click Tools Remote File Explorer to view and manage files located on remote devices. This feature runs optimally over the Recast Agent route, which circumvents the direct network connectivity and admin permissions required for Windows Remote File Explorer.

We invite you to suggest improvements and additional remote tools you'd like to see in the Recast Ideas Portal.

Prerequisites

  • Licensing: Available with Right Click Tools Enterprise licenses (except Legacy subscriptions). Right Click Tools Community users will see the feature in Right Click Tools but, without Recast Agent, it will have the same direct network connectivity and admin permissions as Windows Remote File Explorer.
  • Right Click Tools Enterprise deployed via Recast Management Server or Recast Cloud
  • Recast Agents deployed to devices (strongly recommended)
NOTE: If not using Recast Agent, RCT Remote File Explorer requires network connectivity and administrator permissions on the target device.
  • Service connection from your Recast Management Server or Recast Cloud to Entra ID
  • Minimum Recast Software version: 5.12.2607
  • Minimum Right Click Tools for Intune browser extension version: 3.2.0.0

Recast's Remote Tools may not work correctly when used with Agents running an older software version. As a best practice, we recommend keeping Right Click Tools and the Recast components in your deployment upgraded to the same version.

Run the Remote File Explorer Tool

To run the tool:

1. Right-click on a single device.

This feature is designed to run on one device at a time.

Running this action on many devices at once will open multiple windows, which isn't a great experience.

2. Select Right Click Tools > Remote Tools > Remote File Explorer.

3. Browse files.
