Migrate an Application Workspace Agent to a Different Zone

You might choose to change an Application Workspace agent's primary zone during testing or when moving from a demo or proof-of-concept phase to a production deployment. We do not recommend following these steps for large-scale AW agent migration.

Alternatively, you can change an Application Workspace Agent's zone by uninstalling the Agent, deleting the files located at "C:\ProgramData\Liquit", and reinstalling the Agent with the new agent certificate and adjusted agent.json.

Check the agent's existing zone

To see the agent's current zone:

1. Open Application Workspace Agent on the target device where you want to make the change.

2. Click on the Profile icon in the upper right-hand corner.

3. Open the Diagnostics > Device page.

On the Network tab, under HTTP Headers, you will see the current zone listed as the host.

Stop agent service, end task, delete certificate

To stop the agent service, open Servicesright-click on Application Workspace Agent and select Stop from the drop-down.

To end the UserHost.exe task, open Task Manager > Details, right-click on UserHost.exe, select End task from the drop-down, and confirm that you want to end the process.

To delete the existing agent certificate, open Computer Certificates. In the Personal store, right-click on the Liquit Agent Authentication certificate, select Delete from the drop-down, and confirm the deletion.

Update the Agent.json file with the new zone

To change the zone in the Agent.json file:

1. Open File Explorer, navigate to C:\ProgramData\Liquit\Agent, right-click on the Agent.json file and select Edit with Notepad++ from the drop-down.

2. Update the zone URL.

3. Scroll down, under trustedZones,  select the new zone. Save the file.

Delete the agent registration certificate file

To delete the existing certificate and db files:

1. Back in File Explorer > C:\ProgramData\Liquit\Agent, multi-select the following files:

  • AgentRegistration.cer
  • Agent.db.journal
  • Agent.db
  • and any temp.db that exists

2. When asked to confirm the deletion, click Yes and then Continue (with automatic administrator rights).

Add the new agent registration certificate

To download and copy the new certificate:

1. Open Application Workspace on a new web browser tab.

2. Navigate to Manage > Device Registrations.

3. Locate the device registration certificate for the new zone. If there isn't one, create it.

4. On the Settings tab, click Download for agent registration, and confirm the download by clicking Keep.

5. In the Downloads list, click Show in folder

6. Right-click on AgentRegistration.cer and select the Copy icon.

7. Back in File Explorer > C:\ProgramData\Liquit\Agent, right-click on the Agent.json file, select the Paste icon, and click Continue (with automatic administrator rights).

Restart the agent service

Open Servicesright-click on Application Workspace Agent and select Start from the drop-down.

Check that the agent is in the new zone

1. Launch Application Workspace.

2. Click on the Profile icon in the upper right-hand corner.

3. Open the Diagnostics > Device page.

On the Network tab, under HTTP Headers, you will see the new zone listed as the host.
