Easier Agent Management, Re-enrollment & Cleanup

The new Agent Management web dashboard uncomplicates the task of overseeing communications between your agents and Recast Management Server. Find out when an agent last connected to an agent gateway, and the specific gateway to which an agent connects, to pinpoint connectivity issues.

Behind the scenes, we've added automatic agent re-enrollment, as well as an agent cleanup process that automatically removes inactive and duplicate agents, which means less time spent manually managing agents that fail to communicate with RMS.

Recast Management Server Design Updates

You'll notice some visual design changes in RMS. We've adjusted the look of a number of user interface elements for quick recognition and improved usability.

Navigation panel updates

  • A new Recast Management Server wordmark aligns with our branding
  • When you select a menu item:
    • The text is bolded for differentiation 
    • The item is highlighted with a blue bar (rather than a grey one) to make the current selection more obvious at a glance
  • Chevrons (^) are smaller, making them less conspicuous

RMS page updates

  • Edit and Delete icons are now displayed in greyscale to reduce their prominence
  • Header and footer rows now have a grey (rather than blue) background to allow strategic color use on buttons and symbols to stand out
  • Column headings are bolded for improved legibility and differentiation from text within the table

Discovery Sync

  • Running a sync no longer produces a 'String or binary data would be truncated in table' error. (Customer-Reported Bug 72409)
  • Running a sync for an active directory domain with a deeply nested hierarchy no longer produces a timeout error.

Task Scheduler: The Recast Management Server now communicates with the Task Scheduler Agent to determine whether cleanup tasks exist.

Agent Authentication: A resolved Recast Agent authentication issue no longer prevents Privilege Manager from functioning correctly.

Application Manager

Integrations: Deleting an integration now properly deletes all configuration associated with the integration. There's also a new confirmation dialog when deleting an integration.

Service Connection Synchronization

Your Recast Management Server now retrieves user and device data from Configuration Manager and Active Directory service connections according to a synchronization schedule.

Customers who apply several limiting rules (previously known as scopes) for routes or users will see the greatest performance improvements when running Right Click Tools actions.

Custom Role Templates Available in RMS

We've made it easier to set up custom roles and permissions in your Recast Management Server. Previously, you'd download the PowerShell script for three custom roles from our Help site to add them in RMS. Now the Read-Only, Remote Software Center, and Content Distribution Monitor Dashboard roles are available by default on the RMS Permissions page.

Right Click Tools Browser Extension Available from Google Chrome

The Right Click Tools browser extension is now available from the Google Chrome web store. The browser extension works with the Enterprise or Community Editions of Right Click Tools, allowing you to run familiar tools and actions from within the Microsoft Intune Admin Center.

Multi-Environment Application Deployment

You can now deploy the same applications in both Configuration Manager and Intune environments.

Environment Information on Deployment Process Pages

If you're managing multiple deployment processes in different integrations, it can be challenging to recognize the integration targeted by each deployment process. We've made the task easier by adding environment information on the Deployment Processes and Deployment Process Details pages.

  • On the Deployment Processes page, you'll see the Environment listed in the table. Hovering over the environment displays either the Site Code or the Tenant ID, depending on the integration.
  • On the Deployment Process Details page, you can view the environments targeted by a specific deployment process.

Recast Software Infrastructure

Microsoft .NET Framework Upgrade

We've upgraded all Recast Software applications and components to use Microsoft's .NET 8 framework. The update takes advantage of performance improvements in .NET 8 while avoiding potential security issues as .NET 6 reaches end of support. 

When you install Recast Software Version 5.7.2411.1105, the Recast Management Server will automatically install .NET 8 via the installer and the ASP.NET hosting bundle, if it is not already present on your system. Earlier versions of .NET are no longer required for Recast Software products.

NOTE: Prior to upgrading an Agent Gateway that is installed separately from your Recast Management Server, download and install Microsoft's ASP.NET Core Hosting Bundle for .NET 8. Recast Software v5.7.2412 removes the need to install the hosting bundle separately for standalone Agent Gateways.

This is a visual discrepancy only and does not impact functionality. You can verify the correct version of your Recast products in the Windows Control Panel.

Retrieve BitLocker Recovery Keys from Configuration Manager

With our new Right Click Tool, you can now view and copy BitLocker keys stored in ConfigMgr.

BitLocker Compliance Web Dashboard Updates

We've introduced some improvements to the BitLocker dashboard in your Recast Management Server. 

  • Decluttered charts and legends only display categories that include at least one device
  • The table's new Key Storage column displays recovery key storage locations
  • For greater accuracy, the count at the top of each tab displays the number of devices rather than a percentage of devices

Content Distribution Monitor Improvements

It's now easier to view and sort a large number of distribution points on the Content Distribution Monitor dashboard.

  • Distribution point bar charts sort alphabetically
  • Individual bar chart rows no longer resize
  • A scroll bar lets you see distribution points that extend beyond the viewable area

New Logging Level Defaults

In response to customer feedback that our default logging levels can be a little verbose, particularly in larger environments, we've reduced the Event log level to 'None' for all components and Microsoft and System namespaces to 'Warning' for all components.

New Service Connections Search

On the Service Connections page, we've added a search function and updated some column header labels. For details, see View Service Connections.

BitLocker Compliance Dashboard Updates

You'll notice some changes to the pie charts on the BitLocker Compliance dashboards located in your ConfigMgr console and in your Recast Management Server interface

Updates for both ConfigMgr and RMS dashboards:

  • The BitLocker Recovery Key Storage chart now displays data for a simplified set of categories:
    • Computers without stored keys
    • Computers with keys stored in AD 
    • Computers with keys stored in ConfigMgr 
    • Computers with keys stored in MBAM 
    • Computers with keys stored in multiple locations

Updates for the ConfigMgr dashboard only:

  • The dashboard title has been shortened to 'BitLocker Compliance' for consistency with other Right Click Tools dashboards.
  • The charts and legends only display categories that include at least one device.
  • In the table, a new Key Storage column displays recovery key storage locations.
