Right Click Tools Deployment Models

Recast offers two models for deploying and maintaining the Right Click Tools Enterprise suite:

  • Self-hosted: Your organization hosts Right Click Tools on its own physical or virtual infrastructure
  • Recast-managed SaaS: Recast hosts Right Click Tools on its cloud-based architecture (currently available as an Advanced Preview)

Each deployment model delivers:

  • Identical functionality in Right Click Tools Enterprise, Insights, Patching, and Privileged Access
  • Support for hybrid and cloud-native endpoint management models
  • Centralized role-based access control

Self-hosted deployment

Deploy and manage Right Click Tools on your own physical or virtual infrastructure using a Recast Management Server backed by an SQL database.

Self-hosted deployment via Recast Management Server may be best suited if your organization:

  • Requires full infrastructure control
  • Requires control over the timing of upgrades for Recast applications and components
  • Has air-gapped or highly isolated networks
  • Has regulated environments
  • Has data residency assurance requirements
  • Requires cloud solutions to have additional compliance specifications
  • Requires Single-Sign-On (SSO) via your identity provider for the Recast-managed authentication service that Recast Cloud uses for administrators

SaaS deployment

Following this Right Click Tools deployment model, your organization has a Recast Cloud instance, which is its own tenant in Recast's multi-tenant cloud architecture. Each tenant is separate at the application and database levels. Recast is responsible for provisioning and maintaining infrastructure, and for upgrading the Right Click Tools Enterprise suite.

Recast Cloud is currently available as an Advanced Preview - Talk to your Account Manager to start your Right Click Tools journey to cloud!

SaaS deployment via Recast Cloud is best suited to cloud-forward organizations looking for:

  • Reduced operational overhead: Recast hosts cloud-based servers and maintains infrastructure security
  • Fewer deployment and maintenance requirements: No Recast Management Server or database to set up and manage
  • Quicker access to new features and bug fixes: Recast upgrades you automatically to new versions of Right Click Tools, Insights, Patching, Privileged Access

When using Recast Cloud, you'll still be responsible for updating some components to new Recast Software versions.

Recast components to update using Right Click Tools Patching:

  • Recast Agents deployed to managed endpoints - for communications between Recast Cloud and devices
  • Right Click Tools console extension for Configuration Manager

Recast components to update manually:

  • Right Click Tools for Intune browser extension
  • Recast Proxy - for communications and routing of actions to ConfigMgr and Active Directory
  • Right Click Tools Insights - to use the Configuration Manager Reporting Suite available in SSRS or with PowerBI
