Client Tools: Stop ConfigMgr Client Activities

The Stop ConfigMgr Client Activities tool allows a console user to immediately stop the SMS Agent Host and kill any pending scnotification.exe processes. It was designed to address accidents-- like a deployment with the wrong deadline-- so that anything not yet started will be stopped.

How it does it:

This tool completes this action via Remote WMI. This tool requires remote WMI.

Navigation

Navigate to the Stop ConfigMgr Client Activities tool by right clicking on a Device Object, selecting Recast RCT, then Client Tools, and finally selecting Stop ConfigMgr Client Activities.

The Stop ConfigMgr Client Activities tool can be run on single devices or multi-selected devices. It cannot be run on a device collection.

When the action is run, it prompts with an "Are you sure" before executing the action.

If "Yes" is selected, and the action is completed successfully, the tool will prompt with the following dialog box:

The Stop ConfigMgr Client Activities tool stops the SMS Agent Host on the remote machines and kills any pending scnotification.exe processes. These processes will need to be restarted again for the client to function as desired.

Common Errors

If the device targeted is not powered on, the following error message will be displayed:

If the service is unable to be stopped for another reason, the tool will display the appropriate Service Exit codes, as available.

  • This action requires that the user has permissions in ConfigMgr to read properties about collections and remove devices from a collection. If using a Recast proxy to route actions, the same permissions are required for the service account.
