Deploying Recast Agents

Recast Agents are used to create additional hardware inventory classes on each machine. We use the added classes to populate related Endpoint Insights reports. The agent will create the following classes on each device where it is installed when you are licensed for Endpoint Insights. These items will not be inventoried until the agent is deployed and a hardware inventory cycle has completed.

  • EI Application
  • EI LocalGroup
  • EI LocalUser
  • EI Monitor
  • EI Monitor Resolution
  • EI ODBCDrivers
  • EI Share
  • EI User Mapped Drives
  • EI User Mapped Printers
  • EI User Programs
  • EI Database
  • EI SQL
  • EI ODBC
  • EI ODBC User
  • EI Packages
  • EI Share Permissions
  • EI Docking Station

If Right Click Tools is installed as well, agents can also be leveraged to:

  • Elevate permissions by running actions using a system account
  • Run actions against devices in a workgroup or untrusted domain
  • Run Right Click Tools actions against internet devices using the fast channel, if you have a Cloud Management Gateway.

NOTE: When using with Right Click Tools, the agent establishes a connection with your Recast Management Server over port 444 using a SignalR connection.

To deploy Recast Agents:

1. Open the Configuration Manager console.

2. Navigate to Software Library > Application Management > Applications. A RecastAgent application will be created.

3. Deploy the agent as you would any other application.

Recast Agents will take time to deploy and report their data back to the ConfigMgr database. By default the hardware inventory cycle can take up to 7 days, shortening the time to install and increasing the frequency of reporting back to ConfigMgr can shorten this time significantly.

Viewing Endpoint Insights Reports
